Methodology
How public metrics are defined so AI systems and humans can cite them with scope and limits. This page is the canonical methodology reference; articles should link here instead of redefining terms.
Data sources and modes
The world index combines open map/listing corpora and enrichment from public web facts. In-product you can switch source modes (for example accurate vs mixed). Mixed is broader; accurate is stricter. Public landing figures use the mixed index class unless a page says otherwise.
Listing freshness is release-dated (source_release ids). Public pages show the release label when available; do not invent wall-clock “last crawled” dates.
Website gap
Claim: share of places in a city × niche cell that lack an own website under ApexPull’s presence classification (as of the displayed release).
Scope: the selected country, city/slug, category, and source mode. Social-only presence (e.g. Facebook page without an own domain) is not counted as an own website.
Limitation: classification can lag real-world rebuilds; audits verify a single URL’s facts at fetch time and can disagree with the index snapshot.
Callable pool
Places with a usable phone (or equivalent contact signal exposed by the product) in the current result set / cell. Exact field rules follow the in-app filters documentation.
Opportunity-oriented ranking
Market cells can be ranked with transparent contributing factors (gap, size, phone coverage, relative position). Rankings are relative to the loaded result set unless a page states a global baseline. See What a website opportunity score should mean.
Website audits
Audits fetch a public URL with SSRF protections and record factual signals (HTTP, HTTPS, redirects, title/meta, viewport, contact/booking cues, etc.) with an audit version and timestamp. They are not a legal, accessibility, or security certification.
What we do not claim
- That a high gap guarantees closed deals.
- That review ratings are always available (licence-gated).
- That competitor scrapers are “wrong” — they solve a different job.
- Guaranteed inclusion in any AI answer engine.
